Chile

  • Jan. 8-9 — Off we go!  Dulles to Santiago, Chile
  • Jan. 11 — To La Serena & Elqui Valley for sunshine and Pisco
  • Jan. 15 — Northward to San Pedro de Atacama for crazy desert landscapes
  • Jan. 22 — Slowing the pace a bit in Valparaiso
  • Jan. 29 — (Red) wine country exploration in the Colchagua Valley
  • Feb. 2 — South to the Lakes District, Puerto Varas and Chiloe
  • Feb. 8 — Meeting Aileen and Robbie in Puerto Natales to take on Patagonia!
  • Feb. 8-12 — Torres del Paine

Argentina

  • Feb. 12-17 — Heading to Argentina for more Patagonian adventures in El Chalten & Calafate, followed by a tearful goodbye to A&R
  • Feb. 18-March 1 — Buenos Aires — B takes Spanish classes, we go to many markets, much steak and vino tinto is consumed

Uruguay 

  • March 2-6 — Spring break for team Frolic & Detour:  A few days at the beach in Punta del Diablo

  • March 11-12 — Salta (northwest)
  • March 12-15 — Cafayate
  • March 15-18 — Tilcara

Bolivia

  • March 19-20 — Tupiza
  • March 20-23 — Salt flats tour (southwest Bolivia)
  • March 23-24 — Overnight bus from Uyuni (the worst bus ride yet… very, very little sleep)
  • March 24-29 — La Paz
  • March 29 – April 1 — Copacabana
  • April 1-2 — Isla del Sol (Lake Titicaca)

Peru

  • April 2-3 — Puno
  • April 3-6 – Cusco
  • April 6-9 — Hiking the Inca Trail to Machu Picchu with Matt & Ashley!
  • April 9-11 — Urumbamba (Sacred Valley)
  • April 11-13 — Back to Cusco
  • April 13-17 — Lima and all of its delicious food
  • April 17-21 — Mancora (more precisely, a small beach hotel just outside of town)

Ecuador

  • April 21-25 — Quito
  • April 25 – May 2 — Galapagos Islands (Island of Santa Cruz, Island of Santa Fe, South Plaza Island, San Cristobal Island, Espanola (aka Hood) Island, back to Santa Cruz, Sombrero Chino Island, Santiago Island, and back again to Santa Cruz).

Colombia

  • May 2-6 — Medellin
  • May 6-8 — Hacienda Guayabal outside the small town of Chinchina (coffee country)
  • May 8-12 — Cartagena
  • May 12-22 — Bogota

Turkey

  • May 23-June 2 — Istanbul
  • June 2-5 — Cappadocia
  • June 5-7ish — Egirdir
  • Then perhaps a beach for a few days before meeting DJ in Ephesus

UK

  • June 20-24 — Quick London jaunt to see Gina!

Greece 

  • June 24-July 14 — Crete

Malaysia 

  • July 14-20 — Kuala Lumpur
  • July 20-26 — Salang Beach, Tioman Island
  • July 26-August 1 — Juara Beach, Tioman Island

  • August 3-13 — George Town (Penang) (Rachel’s recuperation period post Tioman jetty cuts and, later, minor infection)

Philippines

  • October 24-29 — Panglao Island, Bohol
  • October 29-30 — Puerto Princesa, Palawan
  • October 30 – November 4 — El Nido, Palawan
  • November 4-5 — Manila (layover)

Japan

  • November 5-8 — Kyoto
  • November 8-13 — Tokyo
  • November 13-15 — Nikko
  • November 15-16 — Yokohama
  • November 16-18 — Fukuoka (Sumo!)
  • November 18-20 — Kinosaki Onsen (Japanese bath)
  • November 20-21 — Kobe (beef)
  • November 21-23 — back to Kyoto (with a day trip to Nara)
  • November 23-25 — Osaka (with a day trip to Hiroshima)

India

  • November 26 – December 3 — Chennai (there was an overnight layover in KL, Malaysia… it turns out Japan and India are geographically far apart)
  • December 3 – 6 — Kochi (a.k.a, Cochin), Kerala
  • December 6 – 7 — Munnar, Kerala
  • December 7 – 9 — Alappuzha (a.k.a., Alleppey), Kerala
  • December 9 – 11 — Kollam, Kerala
  • December 11 – 12 — Varkala, Kerala
  • December 12- 15 — Delhi

    If you get a chance stop in Puerto Montt. I remember it as a interesting mix of new and old. The surrounding scenery is beautiful. The wharf was bustling when I was there with too die for seafood. Have fun,

      Thanks, Sonj! We’ll be flying out of there (down to Punta Arenas) this Friday. We’ll make sure to get there a few hours early to explore and have lunch by the water.
